The Shuswap Sub runs to the west to Kamloops, BC (towards Vancouver, BC), and the Mountain Sub runs to the east to Field, BC, through Rogers Pass. The CP traverses the Canadian Rockies over 2 passes. Rogers Pass, which is to the immediate east of Revelstoke, and further east, Kicking Horse Pass, which is to the immediate east of Field. Rogers Pass is at 4,360 feet (1,330 meters), and Kicking Horse Pass is at 5,339 feet (1,627 meters). To the west of Revelstoke is the lower Eagle Pass, at 1,804 feet (550 meters). Among the freight trains seen here are unit potash, unit grain, and unit coal. Loaded westbounds feature both mid-train and end-of-train DPU’s, and empty eastbounds have fewer engines, both on front and as DPU’s. Many but not all eastbounds will stop to enter the yard, which is located to the east of the museum and cameras. Also seen are manifests, intermodal, and combined intermodal/manifest.. On occasion, the gates will activate, but will soon after deactivate, with no train, which is due to the switcher in the yard proceeding far forward enough to enter the crossing's track circuit. There are no VIA Rail passenger trains through Revelstoke, however, during part of the year the Rocky Mountaineer can be seen. There are 2 ATCS layouts, one for each sub, but there is no server coverage. No radio feeds are available. There’s no schedule for freight trains, but some of our more knowledgeable members will provide real-time information when it’s available. Please refrain from asking. The Big 10 Curve was built by the Denver, Northwestern and Pacific Railway in 1902. The DN&P later became the Denver & Salt Lake Railroad The D&SL was acquired by the Denver & Rio Grande Western RR in 1931 (the merger was completed in March 1947). The Big 10 curve is an S-shaped curve that traverses the transition from the Great Plains to the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The 'Big Ten' consists of "Big Ten Loop" and "Little Ten Loop", both of which are so-named due to having curves of 10º radius. Big Ten was constructed to allow for a grade not exceeding 2%, as the line needed to gain 600 feet in elevation in 2.85 miles at a grade of 4%, which, with Big Ten, became 7 miles at 2% instead. The siding directly below the curves is Rocky, and directly above is Eisele (formerly known for many years as Clay). What you see here : 🤍 Info on the "wind Break" : 🤍 This sub is used by UP, BNSF, Amtrak and the Rocky Mountaineer. While the tracks here see only 8-10 trains per day on average there is no denying the beauty of this view! The Amtrak California Zephyr (5/6) passes once per day in each direction. The Rocky Mountaineer (Rockies to the Red Rocks) passes Westbound on Wednesdays (Apr through Oct) and Sundays (Apr-Jun and Oct, Nov) . Eastbound on Tuesdays (Apr through Oct) and Fridays (Apr-Jun and Oct, Nov) No ATCS for this area The camera overlooks the Arvada area of the greater Denver metropolitan area. The station sees about 24 Amtraks (Pacific Surfliner) and 16 Metrolinks (Inland Empire & Orange County lines) each weekday. About 4 BNSF freight trains run overnight from Barstow, CA, to San Diego. They do not pass through Fullerton, as they must use the Olive Sub 5 miles east, at Atwood Junction. The station was built in 1894 by the Santa Fe, in their typical Mission Style. This is a designated quiet zone (QZ), but crews can use the horns at their discretion anytime. The crossing seen in camera view is no longer a street, and is now pedestrian-only. There is an ATCS layout, but with little to no data (server) coverage. The camera is a 360, providing full range of motion when an operator is present. When’s the next train? Yeah, we get this a lot. The Shuswap Sub runs to the west to Kamloops, BC (towards Vancouver, BC), and the Mountain Sub runs to the east to Field, BC, through Rogers Pass. A portion of the building also houses the Amtrak waiting room. The name ‘Hub City’ was given to Spartanburg as its seven railroad lines of four railroads resembled a hub on a wheel. The track in view is the Norfolk Southern, formerly Southern Railway Washington to Atlanta mainline. This line as built as the Atlanta & Richmond Airline in 1873. Track one is nearest the building. Track two is the next one over. Double track extends from Beaumont (out of view to the north) to Lyman (to the south) The passenger depot had five tracks for passenger use and the mainline plus a track for the W-line between Asheville and Columbia. The Charleston & Western Carolina and the Clinchfield also used the depot for its passenger trains. Today the Hub City sees at least 20 trains per day. The Amtrak Crescent, trains 19 and 20 serve Spartanburg. CSX trains use the Spartanburg tunnel which is underneath the NS mainline. This is a Norfolk Southern line, Coastal Division, Charlotte District. Track speed is 60, with an average speed of 50. NOT a quiet zone. RAILFANS FOR LIFE! Raising a railfan in the South Sound is a ton of fun. 🚆

Cooper Bryan has been a railfan since birth. He and and his father Saint Bryan have spent years together on the hobby in the South Sound region of the Pacific Northwest and on vacations around the country. Cooper's interest has only grown with age, becomeing an accomplished photographer, YouTuber and Instagrammer. Segment producer KING 5 Evening's Saint Bryan. #k5evening #railfan #trainphotography There are probably more glamorous places to spend a summer day than a track side parking lot in Chehalis, but there's no place my teenage son, Cooper, would rather be right now. “You're almost sure to get a train if you stay around for a while,” he says. And so we wait. Together we've spent years waiting for trains, catching them climbing the Tehachapi Loop in California, on the bridges leading into Spokane, and along the Columbia River. “It's something that has always sparked my interest,” he tells me. “I’ve just been watching them go by since I was a little kid. It's kind of fun.” It always has been fun. I recently found a video I made when Cooper and I visited Titlow Park in 2009. Cooper had just turned four. I asked him what he loved about trains. "I love everything about trains," he said. " I love the BNSF. The Cascades. Amtrak. And the Union Pacific." He even loved the garbage train heading down to Oregon with a full load. We live in prime railfan country. Over the years, Cooper has taken up shooting trains . First with a hand me down iPhone. Now with professional quality cameras. He has 6000 followers on his 🤍tacoma_railfan Instagram page and more than a thousand subscribers to his YouTube page. COOPER'S YOUTUBE CHANNEL: 🤍 COOPER'S INSTAGRAM: 🤍 "The interesting thing about railroading is there is something for everyone," says Robert Scott, who caught the bug around the same age Cooper did. He and his friend Dale Skyllingstad have traveled as far away as Chile to catch trains. They've both had photographs published in magazines that cater to the 175-thousand railfans in America. "When people say what are you doing I say well I hunt and a fish but I do it with a camera and I go after trains," says Scott. To better the odds they'll catch something, Scott and Skyllingstad set up a camera outside the Lewis County Historical Museum in 2018. The live feed got a million views worldwide in its first month. "Being around the railroad is a pretty dirty area," Skyllingstad says leaning out the window of the museum with a rag, "so we periodically come by and clean those lenses." Some northbound trains passing through Chehalis will soon be passing within blocks of where we live in Tacoma. If it's something special Cooper will head out to try to catch it. Some locomotiveslike those called fallen flagsare rare. They honor railroads that no longer exist. Other trains might have interesting cargo. Then again they might be hauling garbage to Oregon. Over the years as Cooper has grown, his interests and his skills as a photographer have also grown. He just had a photograph published in the July 2020 issue of Railfan & Railroad Magazine. This is a hobby that can last a lifetime and Cooper is right on track. "I don't have any plans to stop doing this because it's basically something you can always do and it's never really going to end," he says." It's really nice."
